FEU alumna receives SDG 8 Pioneer Award at Icons of Change

Far Eastern University (FEU) alumna Dr. Rosalind L. Wee was hailed as a recipient of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth - Pioneer Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence and Social Responsibility at the Icons of Change Awards 2025. 

The accolade was announced last March 18, but the awarding ceremony will be held at Southville International School, Las Piñas this April 27.

Dr. Wee graduated from FEU with a degree in AB Mathematics in 1967 and was then conferred an Honorary Doctorate in Humanities (Honoris Causa) in 2017. 

She is also the the Vice Chairperson of the W Group of Companies and the founder of Marine Resources Development Corporation known in the carrageenan industry. 

Additionally, Dr. Wee is known in the dried seaweed industry for developing an original formula for carrageenan. She has also expanded her entrepreneurial ventures into real estate through the ‘W Buildings’ located in Bonifacio Global City and Makati. 

Despite undergoing brain tumor surgery in 1993, which left her legally blind, she continued her entrepreneurial journey pushing forward sustainable practices in her innovations. 

Moreover, Dr. Wee involves herself in community initiatives, taking part in various socio-civic and non-government organizations, including the FEU Alumni Foundation and the Philippine Federation of Local Councils of Women. 

The Icons of Change is an annual event celebrating individuals who made meaningful and lasting contributions to society related to various SDGs by the United Nations.
