With University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 89 fast approaching, Far Eastern University (FEU) men’s and women’s basketball teams gear up with a desire to build on their experience and carry added motivation into the upcoming season during the Collegiate Basketball Press Conference earlier today, September 8, at Novotel Manila Araneta City in Quezon City.
Entering his third year at the helm, head coach Sean Chambers believes the FEU Tamaraws’ growing familiarity with its system could set the tone for an improved season in the upcoming tournament.
“Well, clearly, being a former school administrator, you go into your third year, when you start to see your systems in place… you start to have an expectation of that high. And now going into year three, what I'm most excited about is that we have nine guys that have been in the system for the last three years, and we brought in some five fabulous freshmen,” the Morayta-based coach said.
Meanwhile, Lady Tamaraws head coach Raiza Palmera-Dy highlighted how FEU’s UAAP hosting stint adds another layer of motivation for the team as they intend to build on their consistent performances in previous seasons.
“Siyempre, every year naman we do good, and then siguro there’s an additional motivator because we’re the host for the year,” she expressed.
Heading into another season, Chambers asserted confidence in what the Morayta-based cagers can accomplish while carrying the lessons he gained throughout his time in the league.
“So taking that to this year’s season, it’s super exciting. I’m extremely excited for all the things that I have learned from these coaches on this panel, and we’re just excited for the next year and that season to begin,” he said.
The women’s basketball tournament is set to start on September 26 with the venue yet to be announced, while the green-and-gold men’s squad will kick off their season campaign against Adamson University on Sunday, September 13, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
