Far Eastern University (FEU) newly elected and appointed student-leaders braced the call to serve with integrity and sustainability during the Induction and Oath-Taking Ceremony 2024 at the FEU Main Auditorium yesterday, May 27.

With the theme ‘Truthful, Accountable, and Meaningful Student (TAMS) Leadership: Braving the Path of Integrity and Sustainability,’ the ceremony marked the new officers' first day of service for A.Y. 2024-2025.

In his speech as keynote speaker, FEU Alumni Association President Christopher Ferareza shared what distinguishes an ideal leader.

“What defines us [as] a leader are the choices we make. Therefore, be brave and take a path of integrity and sustainability, and surely you’ll make the right choices and become a great leader,” he urged.

Drawing an analogy from driving a vehicle, the Alumni Association President also mirrored the amount of practices needed in leadership, citing the importance of learning its rules and decision-making.

Additionally, Ferareza stressed on prioritizing the interest of group members ahead of oneself, adapting to change, leading from the heart, and self-assessment as assets of leadership with integrity and sustainability.

He also left a question for the participants where their answers will determine what leader they aspire to be, asking “Why?... Why do you want to be a student leader? Why do you want to be in that position of responsibility and power?”

Moreover, outgoing FEU Central Student Organization (FEUCSO) President Joshua Maigue gave his support to incoming FEUCSO President Christmer Roland Ordanes while handing over the Key of Responsibility.

“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all who supported me, my fellow co-officers throughout the [term]. To the incoming president in your Executive Board, I offer my steadfast support,” Maigue said.

Ordanes also expressed his vows to serve fellow students and strive to uphold the University’s core values.

“This Key of Responsibility symbolizes not just my commitment but a share of promise to uphold transparency, accountability, and servant leadership for all FEU students. I pledge to dedicate myself and the rest of the FEU Central Student Organization executive board members to these matters,” he stated.

The Student Development Office annually leads the Induction and Oath-Taking Ceremony for new officers of institute student councils, academic bodies, and University-wide organizations.
