Far Eastern University (FEU) Lady Tamaraws suffered a tough match loss under the control of top-seeded De La Salle University (DLSU) Lady Spikers, 28-30, 12-25, 26-28, in the second round of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 85 women’s volleyball tourney earlier today, March 29 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The Morayta volleybelles fired up the extended first set to challenge the Taft-based team on an alternate exchange of points, 28-30.
FEU stumbled during the second set after being down by 13 points but attempted to grab a set on the last by extending the third set, 26-28.
Two Lady Tams scored double digits for the team with best scorer Chenie Tagaod contributing 13 points from 11 attacks, one block, and an ace while rookie Alyzza Devosora with 10 markers from nine attacks and a service ace.
In a post-game interview with FEU Advocate, FEU Head Coach Tina Salak shared that the team’s composure and maturity stopped them from getting the first and last sets of the game.
“Ngayon sa second round, ‘yung composure kasi ‘yung kailangan din [ng team], pero ‘yung maturity as well. Pero since we are competing, madali na siguro ‘yon [ma-improve] along the way (In the second round, composure is also what the team needs, maturity as well. But since we are competing, it would be easier to improve along the way),” she said.
The Salak-led squad is currently on a 4-5 win-loss record and will try to reclaim a win against the University of the East Lady Warriors on Sunday, April 2, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
