Far Eastern University (FEU) Booters stepped up in dominating fashion as they edged out the University of the East (UE) Red Booters, 5-0, to claim its first victory in season 82 men’s football tourney of University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), March 8 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Malate, Manila.
Foreign student-athlete Kim Kinsu drew the first blood for FEU in the 35th minute-mark, while Gio Pabulan left Red Booters in daze when he scored a stunner from a corner kick.
Mere minutes later, John Saldivar’s brace helped the Tamaraws in securing their first win.
With four-nil on the scoreboard, substitute Ryan Decena was still looking for more with three minutes left on regular time. He then finished the match with a goal, routing the Recto-based squad.
“First start namin sa game shaky kami pero on behalf of our coaches and my teammates naayos naman namin ‘yung system (It first started shaky for us but we got the hang of it sticking with the coaches' system), shared captain Martin Salilig.
Moreover, coming from an opening day draw, FEU head coach Park Bo Bae was happy with the discipline that his players showed.
“If they understand and follow the system, they [will] play well… that’s why today’s game was better,” said Park.
FEU Booters now hold a 1-1-0 win-draw-loss record and will next face the defending champion Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) on Wednesday, March 12 at the same venue.
