Far Eastern University’s (FEU) Department of Communication Assistant Professor Reyjane Del Campo secured the position as the Secretary of the Philippine Association for Communication and Media Research, Inc. (PACMRI) last April 6.

In an interview with FEU Advocate, Del Campo shared that she credits her accomplishment to the interconnected development from her network and personal drive.

“So, basically, intersections siya and what I learned from graduate studies, what I got and what I get from the network, such as PACMRI, and then what I integrate in my research classes, theory classes, thesis classes, and even advising. Tuhog-tuhog siya (It's interlinked). Integrated,” Del Campo said.

Moreover, the secretary brought to light several issues within communication and media.

“At least in my scope of research interests, what I usually work on has something to do when it comes to generative AI, data ethics… Connected na siya (It’s connected) when it comes to malinformation, misinformation, and disinformation, the network of fake news, and then, of course, the arising concerns in generative AI, like the slopaganda, the ones that you've heard about, Grok, and then media labor opportunities. And then… it has something to do with political communication,” she elaborated.

Additionally, she also hopes to contribute in properly informing others of the dialogue within these issues for the better.

“I guess it's not something that is an overnight thing… I guess it's a procedural and systemic process. One thing that PACMRI can work on is unpacking these emerging issues and then providing [a] platform when it comes to communication and media scholarship,” she noted.

Honored to represent FEU for communication and media research, Del Campo recognizes the importance of her new role.

“It's a good thing [that I am] representing FEU when it comes to the field of communication and media research landscape… And then, it's, of course, apart from representation, it's also a sense of responsibility… Kasi (Because), you know, when you're in a ‘leadership’ or when you're part of, if you have a position, it entails responsibility… It's a double-edged sword of emotion,” she explained.

PACMRI is an accredited organization of Filipino communication and media scholars that fosters dialogue and research in the field.
