Far Eastern University (FEU) Department of Accountancy will launch ‘CPAcademia,’ an electronic library (e-library) containing video lectures and materials for Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) students on November 27.
In an interview with FEU Advocate, Department of Accountancy Chair Lady Dianne Madrid shared that the project intends to store video lessons accessible by the students.
“CPAcademia actually parang one-stop e-library… Ngayon kasi, ‘yung trend is online, so sabi ko sa team, why not do a repository nu’ng lahat ng mga lectures, lahat ng materials? (CPAcademia is actually like a one-stop e-library. The current trend is online, so I told the team, why not create a repository for all the lectures and materials?),” Madrid said.
Aside from CPALEctures being a source of video contents, BSA faculty and alumni can also contribute their own materials and recorded videos.
CPALEctures is a series of online lectures conducted since 2023 about Licensure Examination for Certified Public Accountants (LECPA) subjects held prior to the board exam organized by the FEU-Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (FEU-JPIA).
Madrid also expressed their intention to help the students, especially LECPA takers, during their undergraduate studies.
“‘Yung goal naman talaga ng department is makatulong du’n sa board exam preparation… Kapag tinulungan namin sila only few months before ng LECPA, parang kulang, so why not hindi [pa] tayo tumulong habang nandito pa sila sa loob? (The department’s goal is to really help during the board exam preparation… If we help the students only a few months before LECPA, it’s not enough, so why not help them while they are still here inside the University?),” Madrid shared.
The chair also added that they want to enhance the students’ learning experience under the department.
“We want to let them feel that the department, with the faculty and alumni, is all doing our best to give them the best learning experience that they can have… Accountancy itself is really difficult, so kailangan natin mag-isip ng paraan para maisip nila na ‘tinutulungan kami ng Accountancy department’ (we need to think of ways for them to think that the Accountancy department is helping them),” she explained.
Furthermore, Madrid stated that the BSA department aims to continuously improve the performance of the University in LECPA.
“Last board exam, naka-above [national passing rate] na kami, for so long, hindi siya nag-a-above. Last board exam, I was actually contemplating what to do more… Gusto nila 80 percent [passing rate], that is the goal of the University… We want that, ‘yun nga lang kailangan ng maraming effort… Siguro in three years time, we can do the 80 percent, but we must have a plan as early as now,” the department chair said.
Last May 2024 LECPA, FEU Manila recorded a 32.68-percent passing rate, higher than the recorded 30.28-percent for May 2024 national passing rate.
The planning of CPAcademia started last September, with the platform designed by IABF faculty Reymark Lazo and Lawrence Romasanta, as well as the involvement of fellow faculty members, Ariane Faye Valdez, Jerome Perez, and Joy Jesus.
