The Far Eastern University (FEU) Booters will be missing out one of their assets on the defensive end in Resty Monterona for at least two out of their four remaining games in the second round of eliminations of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) season 81 men’s football tournament.
FEU’s right-back booter will not be eligible to play against the Adamson University (AdU), and University of the East (UE) on April 11 and 14, respectively.
Tracing the 34th minute mark of FEU’s match against University of Santo Tomas (UST), Monterona, who was going for a counterattack, got in a collision with a striker coming off from the Espanya-based squad.
As he went down clinching his fractured left arm, there was no foul given on the sequence. As indicated by FEU’s physiotherapist Lorenzo Bajamunde, Monterona is still undergoing a certain therapy for his injury.
“Based on his x-ray, he was diagnosed with incomplete transverse fracture of radial head [bone in the forearm]. He suddenly over extended his left elbow last game against UST,” said Bajamunde.
Bajamunde told FEU Advocate that Monterona’s condition to play on the remaining crucial games will still depend on the result of the arm treatment, yet the team aims for the right-back booter to have the capacity to play against University of the Philippines (UP) and De La Salle University (DLSU).
“About the question if he can play on the remaining games, it’s up to the outcome of the therapy. But our goal, as of now, is for him to play on the games against UP and DLSU,” said Bajamunde.
“As of now, the progression of the [fractured arm] injury is good,” he added.
The second-seeded Morayta-based booters, who now post a 5-3-2 win-draw-loss record with 18 points, will look to extend their winning streak against the Falcons, on the said date above, at the FEU Diliman pitch in Quezon City.
