Far Eastern University (FEU) Lady Booter Regine Rebosura's single strike handed them the first win of the season against Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) Lady Eagles, 1-0, in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 85 women's football tournament earlier today, February 25, at the University of the Philippines Football Field in Quezon City.
Rebosura took the game-winning kick during the 77-minute mark after a series of defensive stops from both teams.
In a post-game interview with FEU Advocate, the green-and-gold lady striker shared the struggles they faced as the team faced a rugged first half on the offensive end.
"’Yung una po kasi sobra po kaming na-pressure kasi hindi pa [kami] ready sa lahat, sobrang nara-rattle po kami. Noong second half po, binigay namin ‘yung best namin kasi hindi namin napakita sa first half (The first part, we were under too much pressure because we weren't ready for everything, we rattled a lot. In the second half, we gave our best because we didn't show it in the first half),” she said.
Rebosura also mentioned the satisfaction she felt upon scoring as it is her goal to be named rookie of the year this season.
"Sobrang sarap sa feeling na maka-score ka. Especially, first time ko po as a rookie na maglaro sa UAAP, kasi target ko po talaga is maging rookie of the year (It's a great feeling to score. Especially, it's my first time as a rookie to play in the UAAP, because my target is to be the rookie of the year),” she stated.
The Morayta-based squad now holds a 1-0-0 win-draw-loss card and will attempt to hatch their second win against the University of Santo Tomas Lady Booters on March 11 at the same venue.
