After 16 hours of procession, the sacred image of the Black Nazarene was celebrated and ushered back by devotees to Quiapo Church last Thursday night, January 9, the fastest in recent years.
The barefoot procession or 'Traslacion' officially started around 4 a.m. at the Quirino Grandstand and ended before 9 p.m. In recent years, the Nazarene festivities took about 20 hours to finish the procession.
According to Metro Manila police, the 'andas' or the wooden carriage carrying the icon took a shorter route, 6.16 kilometers, from its usual 6.19-kilometer route due to the ongoing construction of Quezon Bridge, McArthur Bridge and Jones Bridge.
As per Manila Public Information Office (PIO), Traslacion 2020 devotees reached approximately 2.5 million during the procession.
