With the goal of fostering the Tamaraw community’s well-being, Far Eastern University (FEU) launched the Mindfulness and Fitness Rooms at the Arts Building Room 110 and Room 108, respectively, earlier today, September 19.
“The [Mindfulness] room is the University’s response to the importance of prioritizing one’s mental health and well-being in this fast-paced and stressful environment that we navigate daily,” said FEU Institute of Education (IE) Dean Aisa Arlos in her welcome message.
Specific weekly activities include ‘quiet time,’ guided meditation, mindfulness coloring or artwork sessions, and other services provided by the FEU Healing Spaces Psychology Center and Guidance & Counseling (G&C) Office.
According to Professional Engagement and Development Director Graciel Lintag, the room will serve as a space for special sessions related to meditation.
“The purpose of the Mindfulness Room is to provide opportunities to be still, reflective, and mindful [of] thoughts and behavior,” she shared.
Aside from the special sessions, only the regular wellness activities conducted by the Wellness and Recreation Program (WRP) Department will be credited as part of the WRP course.
The room is planned to be accessible starting tomorrow, September 20, as per WRP Department Chair Jayson Cruz.
Students can book the room on a first-come, first-served basis with a maximum capacity of 20 people.
Additionally, the Fitness Room will be dedicated to the fitness of FEU faculty and staff, which they can book free of charge.
Students can also use it during their WRP and Physical Activities Towards Health and Fitness classes.
WRP will post the schedule of the activities on their official Facebook page soon.
The project was initiated by the FEU Academic Affairs Office, IE, WRP Department, Psychology Department, G&C, as well as the Facilities and Technical Services for the room’s furniture.
