Far Eastern University (FEU) Lady Tamaraw Booters preserve clean record in triumphant win against the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Lady Booters, 2-1, in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 86 women's football tournament tonight, April 20, at the UP Diliman Football Pitch in Quezon City.
The green-and-gold squad earned an early goal at the 12th minute courtesy of UST Midfielder Nikki Marcos’ own goal.
Following the unpredicted point, Woman of the Match Dionesa Tolentin scored a second goal during the 28-minute mark to give FEU the winning advantage.
In a post game interview, the Team Captain shared her thoughts on the team’s clean slate and their objectives for every game to maintain it.
“Sobrang saya po kasi hindi po namin pinabayaan 'yung kung ano po dapat naming gawin, like kailangan namin manalo talaga every game, 'yun po 'yung objective namin, dapat first [at] second round hanggang sa championships kailangan namin maipanalo 'yung game (I'm very happy because we did not hold up of what we can show, like we had to win every game, that is our objective, we have to win the first and second round until the championships),” Tolentin said.
UST tried to keep up with FEU’s momentum and caught a goal in the second half with Gly Anonuevo’s penalty goal at the 64th minute.
Meanwhile, FEU Head Coach Let Dimzon praised UST and rookie Althea Rebosura’s performance during the post game interview.
“I think UST played well today, so aggressively, and then ayun nga ayaw nilang 'yung ibibigay 'yung game sa amin. So although we do [have] a lot of good chances during the first half, maganda 'yung pinakita ni Althea Rebosura [because] she have a lot of chances sa harapan, ayun lang talaga, hindi niya lang talaga ma-capitalize 'yung scoring. But 'yung maganda lang d'on is na-test namin 'yung mga bagong players (I think UST played well today, aggressively, and then they didn't allow us to have the game. So although we did have a lot of good chances during the first half, Althea Rebosura showed a good game because she had a lot of chances in the front, but then again, she couldn't capitalize on scoring. But what's good is that we got to test the new players),” she said.
The Diliman-based team now sits undefeated with a 6-0-0 win-draw-loss record and will face their championship rivals, the De La Salle University (DLSU) Lady Booters, next Saturday, April 27, at the same venue.
