FEU eyes additional preventive actions amid COVID-19 concerns

Due to the case outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), Far Eastern University (FEU) released a health advisory adhering to the continuous precautionary actions for its stakeholders, March 9.

To provide the community with clean, green and safe environment, the FEU Group of Schools (FEU Manila, Makati, Cavite, High School, Tech, Diliman, Alabang, Roosevelt), plans to implement preventive additional measures against the spread of disease.

In accordance, the stated plans are as follows:

  1. Implementation of an information campaign to dispel false news
  2. Provision of thermal scanners at all school entry points
  3. Provision of flu and pneumococcal vaccines, as well as attention to all medical concerns at the corresponding health centers
  4. Intensified cleaning and sanitation of all school premises

Last January 30, FEU also released a health advisory for its students, faculty and employees who travelled outside the country in the last 14 days to do a two-week self-quarantine as advised by the University Health Services (UHS).

While, FEU Central Student Organization (FEUCSO) took initiative in giving free surgical masks and requested the availability of liquid hand soaps in the campus comfort rooms last January 31.

Last night, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte declared a State of Public Health Emergency in a press briefing and ordered the suspension of classes in all levels across Metro Manila from March 10-14, 2020 to give local governments time to conduct safety measures.

As of posting, cases of COVID-19 in the Philippines confirmed by the Department of Health (DOH) soared to 33. First confirmed COVID-19 case in the country was recorded last January 30.

The outbreak was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern by the World Health Organization (WHO) last January 30, 2020.
