Far Eastern University (FEU) Outstanding Alumni Awardee Ramon Sy passed away at 91, the Asia United Bank (AUB) Corporation announced on Friday, September 17.

Sy earned his Bachelor of Arts in Commerce degree from FEU in 1952.

He was one of the first batch of students when the University set off as the first academic institution to conduct night classes.

In FEU's documentary entitled "Be Brave", Sy shared his story as a part-time bank messenger at the former Manila branch of Bank of America. He also narrated how the University helped him mold his character by overcoming his inferiority complex, reminiscing his humble past of living in a small town in Cavite.

To date, Sy is one of the most respected bankers in the country. He was the chairman of Apex Mining Corporation and vice chairman of AUB since 2012.

He was also a member of the Board of Trustees of the FEU - Nicanor Reyes Memorial Foundation (FEU-NRMF) since 2016.

"Mr. Sy, the AUB family is grateful for the years you have dedicated and shared with us. We have nothing but respect and admiration for you, and we will always be grateful for your mentoring and inspiration,"  AUB President Manuel Gomez said in an interview with Rappler.

FEU expressed its condolences through a Facebook post, recognizing Sy's remarkable contributions to the banking industry.

As of writing, no details were given regarding his cause of death.
