Far Eastern University (FEU) Department of Communication (DepComm) alumnus Adrian Earl Taruc attributed his competitive edge to the University as a finalist in the newly concluded MYX VJ Search 2024.
After the selection process, the 12 finalists were announced on November 4 via MYX’s YouTube and social media platforms, followed by the grand winner’s reveal during the MYX Music Awards on November 21.
In an interview with FEU Advocate, Taruc shared how his time at FEU prepared him for the VJ Search competition.
“I owe so much to my University for shaping me and preparing me for the real world. It placed me in diverse environments and taught me to be adaptive… As a Communication Arts alumnus, my background has been invaluable in guiding how I approach my work,” he said.
The competition spanned for over a month and included both virtual and in-person challenges.
Finalists were tasked with creating self-made videos and later participated in shoots at ABS-CBN, where they interviewed prominent artists and industry leaders.
The Communication alumnus’ decision to join the search came unexpectedly during a media conference coverage.
“I had no idea they would be making an announcement about it there. My focus was simply on documenting the program’s rebranding and return after three years, or so I believed… Maybe this time I’ll finally have the chance to be a part of it,” he stated.
Although Taruc did not secure the VJ role, he expressed genuine happiness for the winners.
“I am truly happy for both of them because I know they each bring something unique to the table. They worked hard, showed up for every challenge, and gave their best on every shooting day, so it’s no surprise that they won,” the Communication alumnus shared.
As he transitions back to hosting after a brief hiatus behind the camera, Taruc remains deeply grateful to the FEU community.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank the Tamaraw community. I will always live in gratitude, knowing that each of you played a part in shaping the person I am today. Being included in this year’s MYX VJ Search is living proof that it’s never too late to achieve your dreams,” he said.
The MYX VJ Search is a highly anticipated platform where aspiring video jockeys compete for a spot on MYX Global, known for promoting Filipino and Asian music culture.
