Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraw CJ Cabatac is out for the rest of the season after suffering a fracture injury in his right leg in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 85 men’s volleyball tourney.
The Tamaraw obtained a complete fracture of the right tibia and fibula from a bad landing during the first set of their losing game against the National University Bulldogs last March 18.
In an online interview with FEU Advocate, Team Physiotherapist Millicent Sy Tan confirmed that the young spiker will miss the rest of the tournament and will undergo surgery.
“He will be focusing on post-operative recovery for three to four months as per [the] doctor. And then about six to twelve months [of] rehabilitation and conditioning,” she stated.
Volleyball program director Dzi Gervacio also said that the management will be prioritizing Cabatac’s full recovery during an online interview.
“[We are] definitely prioritizing his health and recovery now. More than anything, we want to be supportive of CJ — not just physically, but holistically being a student-athlete at that,” she said.
Gervacio added that the Tamaraw is currently at the FEU - Dr. Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation (NRMF) Medical Center for the surgery and further monitoring.
With Cabatac’s absence, the Tamaraws are looking for a redemption run for the second round after finishing the first with a 5-2 win-loss standing at the tournament.
