In a Facebook post, an apparent leakage of Far Eastern University (FEU) Student Portal account information by alleged hacker named “Drk” was released on Tuesday night.
The said leaked information contained the student’s name, student number, password, course and mobile number uploaded last May 28.
As of 2:20 a.m. on Wednesday, the link to the list of student information was unavailable.
It allegedly warned the University of a recent hacking incident by “InFamouz” and “Alita” but claimed that the institution made no actions against the occurrence.
In an online statement, the University acknowledged incident reports involving the school portal. It said, "We have received reports that the FEU Student Portal has been compromised. We would like to reassure all that our Information Technology Services (ITS) team is investigating this matter thoroughly."
Days before the leakage, the University also reminded students of the importance of strengthening security on all public accounts due to the recent incident of “dummy” accounts mimicking students.
“For our part, we wish to assure you that, in preparation for the incoming academic year, FEU has strengthened (and will continue to strengthen) its security measures to ensure the safety of all digital content, devices, applications, and systems and their compliance with the Data Privacy Act,” it stated in an online post.
In light of the event, FEU Central Student Organization (FEUCSO) reminded co-Tamaraws to secure their Student Portal and Student Central.
