With recent attacks on the campus press documented in the first quarter of 2025, College Editors Guild of the Philippines (CEGP) amassed at least 87 signatories from various student publications across the country in unison to call for the end of campus press repression released today, February 25.

“CPFVs [campus press freedom violations] must never occur inside our schools and communities, where critical thinking and meaningful discourse must be fostered to actualize genuine change. As press freedom is a democracy, we remain firmly committed to combating election fraud, disinformation, and corruption to uphold clean, honest, fair, and peaceful elections,” the statement read.

The guild cited the experiences of Today’s Carolinian from the University of San Carlos, TheSPARK from Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges, and Tanglaw from Polytechnic University of the Philippines - Sta. Rosa as the recent cases of CPFVs.

Moreover, FEU Advocate signed the statement along with other University Belt publications such as UE Dawn from University of the East; TomasinoWeb, Thomasian Engineer, and Transcend Daily from University of Santo Tomas, The Adamson Chronicle from Adamson University, as well as various student papers from the University of the Philippines System.

CEGP also urges student-journalists to hold perpetrators accountable for the attacks against campus press and continuously forward press freedom.

Earlier today, CEGP staged a press conference with Today’s Carolinian, TheSPARK, Tanglaw, and TomasinoWeb, lobbying their calls amid the recent attacks on their organizations.
