After facing defeat in their last game, Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraw Veejay Pre domineered the scoring system for a recovery win against the Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) Blue Eagles, 65-46, in the Filoil EcoOil Preseason Tournament earlier today, May 31, at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.
Pre led the scoreboard with 14 points, seven rebounds, and an assist for the Morayta-based team.
During the post-game conference, preseason head coach Denok Miranda highlighted the adjustments faced by the rookies as they transferred from the FEU high school basketball program to the collegiate stage.
“Syempre, ‘yun naman ‘yung nasa program namin nu’ng [FEU] high school [basketball], so aakyat lang sila so alam na naman na nila ‘yung system nu’ng college. And then pagpasok naman kay Coach Sean [Chambers], ‘di naman na big adjustment sa kanila, kaya nakaka-perform sila at nakaka-contribute sila agad sa team (Of course, that is the FEU high school basketball program, so they will just move on to the collegiate division so they already know the system. And then when they advance to coach Sean Chambers, they do not have to make big adjustments, so they are able to perform and contribute early),” he said.
The rookie-laden squad asserted dominance as early as the first half with a 14-point lead against the Blue Eagles.
In the second half, the Tamaraws continued to lead before Ateneo with 24 points at most before closing the match at 65-46.
Foreign student-athlete Mo Konateh also excelled in the scoring department with 11 points, while Jed Daa also pitched in 10 markers.
With another win on their end, the green-and-gold ball team now sits at a 3-1 win-loss column as they inch closer to the quarterfinals.
FEU will try to build up their winning streak against the National University Bulldogs on Sunday, June 2, at the same venue.
