Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws took down University of the East (UE) Red Warriors in straight sets, 25-22, 25-17, 25-15, in the first round eliminations of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 86 men’s volleyball tournament earlier today, February 25, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The Morayta-based squad dominated the winless team to enhance their standing to 3-0, following their four-set triumph over the De La Salle University Green Spikers.

In a post-game interview, FEU Head Coach Eddieson Orcullo shared his thoughts about the team’s good start in this season’s league.

Siguro dapat kung good start kami, dapat good ‘yung finish natin. So siguro dapat ‘yung hindi tumigil, ‘yung hindi ka maging relaxed kasi hindi naman d’yan natatapos [ang]  UAAP, sobrang tagal pa ng tatahakin natin and nakakatatlo pa lang tayo (If we had a good start, we should also have a good finish. So we shouldn't stop and be relaxed because the UAAP doesn't end there, we have a long way to go and we only have three wins yet),” he said.

Player of the Game JJ Javelona pitched in 13 points for the winning team, while Martin Bugaoan scored another double digit with 11 points.

In the same interview, Javelona thanked Orcullo for trusting and relying on him to take on any role that the team needed.

Nagpapasalamat din ako kay coach kasi kahit saan akong pwesto ilagay, nakakaya ko and nag-aadjust talaga ako palagi, ready talaga ako (I am also very thankful for coach because in any position I am put in, I was able to play and adjust well, I am always ready),” he stated.

The green-and-gold team will soon face the undefeated University of Santo Tomas Golden Spikers next Sunday, March 3, at the same venue.
