Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws took home their second win in a four-setter match against the Adamson University (AdU) Soaring Falcons, 31-33, 25-17, 25-17, 25-23, in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 85 men’s volleyball tourney held at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City earlier today, March 4.
The Morayta-based spikers lost their five-point momentum in the 17-12 rally after a series of service errors and poor floor defense to stop AdU’s attacks in the first set.
FEU did not look back as they ran a total of 55 attack points in the following sets to clinch victory against the San Marcelino-squad.
During the post-game conference, FEU Head Coach Rei Diaz Jr. highlighted the good team response that led them to win the match.
“Maganda ‘yung response nila, one at a time. Inuna nila sa receive tapos ‘yung serve[s] nila, may error[s] pero I think mas less [‘yung errors]… At tsaka maganda do’n, pinagtulungan nila (Their response is good, one at a time. They started with the receive then their serve[s], there are errors I think there are less [errors]… And the good thing there is they help each other),” he said.
Green-and-gold setter Benny Martinez played a key role in their third game of the season after creating 25 excellent sets and a service ace.
Three Tamaraws produced double-digit scoring with Mark Calado, Martin Bugaoan, and Zhydryx Saavedra having 24 points, 18 markers, and 16 points, respectively.
FEU now holds a 2-1 win-loss card and will next face the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles on Wednesday, March 8 at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
