FEU Advocate senior Filipino Writer Jasmien Ivy Sanchez emerged as Champion in Editorial Writing at the Organization of Student Services Educators, Inc. (OSSEI) National Conference in Campus Journalism and 19th Writing Competition held at the Baguio Crown Legacy Hotel in Baguio City last March 13 to 17.

Her winning piece, ‘Balota, Balita, o Balato?,’ revolved around urging the media to escape the trap of capitalism and influences that prompt disinformation and propaganda at the upcoming 2025 National and Local Elections.

Along with Sanchez, representatives Human Resource Coordinator Ma. Louela Luna, junior Filipino Writer Eryl Cabiles, and probationary Layout Artist Runoel Julius Barde also participated in six out of the seven competition categories.

The categories included Development Reporting, Editorial Writing, News Reporting, Page Design and Layout, Multimedia Journalism, and Feature Writing.

Last September 2024, the green-and-gold campus press fielded Head Layout Artist Jonathan Carlos Ponio, Art Director Alexandra Lim, Multimedia Head Officer-in-Charge Xrstanne Alexandra Puno, and  junior News Writer Shayne Elizabeth Flores in OSSEI’s National Training Workshop on Campus Journalism.

The student publication won First Prize for Most Multi-Platform Engagements, Second Prize for Lim’s Editorial Cartoon ‘Pigang-piga,’ and Fifth Prize in the Tabloid/Semi-broadsheet category for FEU Advocate’s ‘Tomo XXVII, Blg. 1, Hunyo-Hulyo 2024’ print issue.

FEU Advocate last won as Champion in the national writing contest in 2011 for Page Design and Layout during OSSEI’s fourth year.

OSSEI annually gathers campus journalists from across the country to partake in a series of lectures and workshops led by various renowned media practitioners.
