Far Eastern University (FEU) Booters brought home their second win of the season despite being one man short against the De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Booters, 2-1, in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 85 men’s football tournament held at the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman Football Field in Quezon City earlier today, February 26.
During the 51st minute, FEU’s defender Mel Baylon was given a red card after hitting DLSU’s Mohammad Almohjili on the face.
The Morayta-based squad put a goal on the scoreboard early in the match with striker Martini Rey taking an easy shot during the sixth minute.
La Salle immediately took a counter with Green Booter Mikio Umilin tying the game in the 27-minute mark, 1-1.
In a post-game interview with FEU Advocate, Rey mentioned how it was a difficult win for them to clinch the win on their third game of the season.
“Medyo nahirapan kami kasi nga, yes, we scored first tapos nabawian kami and then man down kami, may na-red card na isa… Medyo mahirap siya pero napakita namin ‘yung character [namin] (It was quite difficult for us, because, yes, we scored first then they countered us and then we were man down, there was one who got a red card… It was quite hard but we were able to show our character),” he said.
FEU’s Khent Brian Valenzuela sealed the win for the green-and-gold after a strike during the 60th minute.
The Vincent Santos-led squad now holds a 2-1-0 win-draw-loss card and will next face the UP Fighting Maroons next Sunday, March 5 at the same venue.
