Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws Martin Bugaoan and Dryx Saavedra brought individual awards after wrapping up the season campaign with a bronze medal in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 86 men's volleyball tournament today, May 15, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Bugaoan took the 1st Best Middle Blocker award while Saavedra was awarded as the Best Opposite Spiker.
In an interview with the FEU Advocate, the opposite hitter expressed his happiness in obtaining the award in his second year in the league.
“Sobrang saya ko kasi isa sa goal ko ‘yung makuha ‘yung award na ‘to eh, and ‘yun nga, syempre mas importante pa rin sakin ‘yung talagang gustong goal ng teammates ko, but still sobrang saya ko ngayon kasi second year pa lang ako tapos nakuha ko na agad ‘yung gusto kong award (I’m very happy because getting this award is one of my goals, and of course, the goal of the whole team is really important but still, I’m very happy because I’m only in my second year but I already got this award),” Saavedra said.
The Tamaraws were also awarded as the second runners up of the tournament after failing to secure a ticket to the finals in back-to-back semifinals loss against the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Golden Spikers.
Last Season 85, the green-and-gold team also failed to advance to the finals after facing defeat against the same team.
This season’s finals match up is between the UST Golden Spikers and National University Bulldogs.
