Today, I managed to touch the sky.
The wind caught me and sang me high.
If only Mama could see me flash my smile—
I had always told her I could fly.
The clouds were soft; they let me through,
their silver edges kissed my shoes.
I laughed—it felt like dreams could stay,
and war was just a game we play.
Now everything is small and still,
The streets are ashen, the olive trees are nil.
The stones were kind, they didn’t tell,
On where all the broken pieces fell.
But from here, the world looks kind and wide,
No walls, no guns, no need to run and hide.
Mama, don’t cry; your boy can finally fly—
Today, I touched the sky.
