Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws broke their two-game losing skid after a convincing win against the Adamson University (AdU) Soaring Falcons, 83-71, to cap off their first round campaign in the 82nd season of University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) men’s basketball tournament, September 28 at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena in Pasay City.

“All we wanted was to win our last game in the first round. That was the very objective in this game and the players delivered,” FEU active consultant Nash Racela remarked.

Coming from a 22-point loss at the hands of bottom-seeded National University (NU) Bulldogs, the Morayta-based squad charged back with their highest-scoring match yet for this season.

FEU’s rookie Xyrus Torres exploded for a career-high of 21 markers with five triple shots, along with another career-performance of Patrick Tchuente with 21 points, 19 boards and six blocks.

After Torres chipped in his first triple to give FEU a five-point edge at 11-6, AdU’s Jerome Lastimosa answered back with a three of his own. But a fadeaway jumper from Egie Mojica tied the match at 11-apiece in the first frame.

However, the San Marcelino-based cagers saw some daylight in the second quarter after a back-to-back triple from Simon Camacho and Jerrick Ahanmisi trimmed the lead to five, 28-23.

After the break, Torres pushed the Falcons away with two triples at the end of the third canto, sending the Tams with a 14-point advantage, 66-52. FEU then kept adding to their basket and brought down the soaring-high Falcons to the ground.

With this bounce back win, the FEU now holds a 3-4 win-loss card and will enter the second round with a three-way tie over AdU and De La Salle University (DLSU) at the fourth spot.
