Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws fell short on the comeback attempt against the Adamson University (AdU) Soaring Falcons, 17-18, in the University Athletic Association (UAAP) Season 86 Men’s 3x3 Basketball tournament today, May 3, at Ayala Malls Manila Bay in Parañaque City.
The green-and-gold squad struggled to convert early in the game as their two-man game sets with Rojan Montemayor and Leyton Buenaventura were tightly contested by the blue-and-white.
FEU was at arms distance for most of the match, but cannot overtake AdU due to their constant misses.
With nine seconds left down three, FEU’s Luke Felipe swished a timely corner three to bring the score to 17-18.
After getting a stop against Adamson, Montemayor shot a go-ahead game winner beyond the arc, which spun in and out of the rim. Leyton Buenaventura fought through position and tipped in the miss, but was after regulation.
Montemayor spoke on how they could have executed better down the stretch to make the outcome more favorable.
“Gotta go to the post...Just make shots. I felt like I’m the one who could have made the shots, but it’s unfortunate that I couldn’t make them,” Montemayor shared.
He also reflected on what adjustments the squad can make to come out on top in the future games.
“In order to win the next games, we got to limit our fouls, go to the post, and make the game easier,” he added.
FEU won their earlier game against the University of the Philippines (UP) by default as they have formally forfeited their remaining games.
The green-and-gold cagers split their standings with a 2-2 win-loss record and are set to face De La Salle University (DLSU) and University of Santo Tomas (UST) tomorrow, May 4, at the same venue.
