Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraw standout Janrey Pasaol emerges as the projected Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 88 men’s basketball tourney, following the release of the league’s official statistics today, November 27.
Pasaol proved vital for FEU, leading the Tamaraws through a strong campaign for a 7-7 win-loss record by the end of the season.
Despite the green-and-gold squad finishing fifth and missing their chances for a Final Four berth, Pasaol’s consistent all-around performance placed him first in the statistical point (SP) leaders, automatically granting him the MVP title.
Racking up 81.5 SPs, the 21-year-old sophomore rose to the top spot averaging 15.43 markers, 7.5 assists, and 4.14 rebounds in 14 outings.
The numbers place Pasaol on pace to become the Tamaraws’ first MVP winner since Terrence Romeo in Season 76, joining FEU greats Joselino Roa, Anthony Williams, Glenn Capacio, Johnny Abarrientos, Arwind Santos, and RR Garcia.
Following Pasaol in the leaderboard are De La Salle University’s Michael Phillips, University of Santo Tomas’ Collins Akowe, National University’s Jake Figueroa, and University of the East’s Precious Momowei.
As for his fellow Morayta-based cagers, joining Pasaol in the top 10 list are Mo Konateh, who ranked sixth with 74.786 SPs, and senior rookie Kirby Mongcopa, who placed ninth with 63.643 SPs.
