Fire broke out in University of the East, along Claro M. Recto Avenue, Sampaloc, Manila. Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) stated that the fire started at 9:25 AM.
It elevated to Task Force Bravo at 10:03AM. The fire originated from the third floor of the five-storey College of Arts and Sciences where a renovation was undergoing. It spread to the Engineering Building and to the University Chapel.
“Almost maubos talaga lahat ‘yung Engineering [Building] tsaka ‘yung College of Arts and Sciences (Engineering Building and College of Arts and Sciences were almost engulfed [by the fire]),” Senior Inspector Reden Alumno said.
According to BFP’s Report, the estimated cost of damages was 22 million pesos. The fire was declared under control at 10:38AM. The cause of fire is still under investigation.
As of 1:00 PM, UE announced on its official Facebook Page that its Manila Campus will be closed from students and visitors on April 4.
