Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraw LJay Gonzales and Lady Tamaraw Josee Kaputu were included in the Mythical Five to close the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 86 men’s and women’s basketball tourneys, respectively.
Gonzales tallied 66.857 statistical points in 14 games played which placed him as one of the top five ballers of the season.
In an interview with FEU Advocate, the graduating Tamaraw shared his pride and joy as he entered the mythical team in his last playing year.
“Sobrang happy ako na nakuha ko ‘tong Mythical 5 tapos last playing year ko pa and wala akong regrets talaga kasi binigay ko naman lahat ng best ko, and proud ako na nakuha ko ‘to (I am very happy that I got in Mythical 5 and it’s on my last playing year and I really do not have any regrets because I gave all of my best, and I am proud I got this),” he said.
Former Baby Tam and a current University of the East Red Warrior Rey Remogat was also awarded as a Mythical 5 member.
Finals contenders Kevin Quiambao and Evan Nelle of the De La Salle University Green Archers, and Malick Diouf of the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons were among others.
The Morayta cagers ended the season with a 3-11 win-loss record that put them at seventh seed this season.
Meanwhile, Lady Tamaraws reinforcement Josee Kaputu delivered early in the women’s basketball tournament by scoring 27 points apiece in her first two games in the UAAP.
Kaputu continued to showcase high caliber performance upon landing as the second ranked player in the Most Valuable Player race despite closing the season 86 campaign with a 3-11 win-loss card.
Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles Kacey Dela Rosa and Junize Calago, and University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigresses Reynalyn Ferrer and Kent Pastrana joined Kaputu as the top cagebells this season.
The awarding was held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City earlier today, December 3.
