Far Eastern University (FEU) Lady Tamaraw Booters shut out the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons, 4-0, in the University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) women’s football tournament, earlier tonight, October 25, at the UP Diliman Football Pitch.
Forward Judie Arevalo wasted no time in putting the Tamaraws on the board, scoring just three minutes into the match.
The green-and-gold booters maintained control throughout the first half, as Marienell Cristobal added FEU’s second goal in the 44th minute before receiving a yellow card due to a midfield collision.
The Morayta-based squad wasted no time after the break, as Regine Rebosura found the back of the net, scoring at the 49-minute mark.
Capping off FEU’s dominant showing, Sarahgen Tulabing pounced on a loose ball inside the box and slotted it home at the 90th minute mark, putting the finishing touch on the Lady Tamaraws’ commanding 4–0 win.
With the result, FEU tallied its second win of the second round.
In an interview with FEU Advocate, Arevalo shared how their early aggression was a key part of their game plan.
“Ayun, sabi ng coaches namin, dapat early minutes pa lang, 10 minutes, dapat maka-score na kami para nasa amin ‘yung momentum, and para hindi na po kami maghahabol para maka-play kami nang maayos (That's what our coaches said, we should score in the early minutes, 10 minutes in so we have the momentum, and so we don't have to chase anymore so we can play well),” she said.
She added that the team hopes to sustain their winning form heading into the next phase of the tournament.
“Siguro tuloy-tuloy lang po ‘yung ganitong sitwasyon na puro lang po panalo. Sana ma-secure po namin ‘yun hanggang sa finals (Maybe this situation of only winning will continue. Hopefully we can secure that until the finals),” the forward shared.
FEU will look to extend their streak when they face De La Salle University on November 5 at the same venue.
