After Far Eastern University (FEU) Trackster Simoun Tautho’s diagnosis of gallbladder polyps, the FEU men’s track and field team called for a collective effort to raise money in support of his operation.

Tautho made his first appearance during the Tracksters’ run in the University Athletics Association of the Philippines Season 87, in which they landed a silver finish.

The green-and-gold trackster also participated in the 100-meter and 200-meter races of the Philippines Track and Field Association Weekly Relays last 2024.

News first spread last May 31 in a post made by the FEU Men’s Track and Field official Facebook page showing his state and requesting financial donations.

“Hi everyone, we're reaching out on behalf of the FEU Track and Field Men’s Team for our former teammate and brother on the track—Simoun Tautho. Recently, he was diagnosed with gallbladder polyps, and the largest one measures 2.1 cm. According to his doctor, this puts him at high risk for cancer if left untreated. Kaya kailangan na po siyang maoperahan [ka]agad (That’s why operation is urgent). The total cost for the operation is around ₱200,000, and we’re humbly asking for your help kahit kaonting halaga, malaking tulong na po (even a small amount will do)!” the Facebook post read.

On the same day, Tautho’s former teammate, Jhon Gopo from the University of San Carlos, also made a Facebook post on behalf of the school’s track and field team.

In an online interview with FEU Advocate, Tautho’s mother shared that he had been experiencing pain prior to discovery of the gallbladder polyp.

“He was in constant pain in the lower abdomen, and during the CT scan they accidentally saw the polyp. Then after a second opinion, the doctor said an operation is needed as soon as possible,” she said.

Tautho’s mother ensured that he is safe and is currently recovering while waiting for the operation. She then expressed her gratitude toward those who have helped and showed their support.

As of writing, a total of P28,700 has been raised for the student-athlete’s medical expenses.

Financial donations may be sent through Tautho’s BPI and GCash accounts which can be found on the FEU Men’s Track and Field’s Facebook post.
