In place of the current system, Far Eastern University (FEU) is set to introduce ‘Student Central NEO,’ aiming to improve student user experience in handling enrollment procedures and other services, with its target launch date in December.

FEU Student Central is the University’s official online portal where students can manage academic procedures such as enrollment and class adjustments, as well as access student reports and financial transactions, among others.

Through a Facebook post last October 28, the FEU Enrollment page hinted at the online portal’s upcoming new version, NEO, suggesting an improved enrollment experience.

In an interview with FEU Advocate, Application Support Business Process Manager Elijahmar Cogollodo under the Information Technology Services (ITS) department shared that Student Central NEO consists of upgraded features, prompting smoother navigation and performance.

“It focuses on improving the overall user experience kasi it offers a smoother enlistment performance and more intuitive features so that the students can accomplish their enrollment and other transactions with greater ease and convenience,” he said.

Cogollodo added that the development of the new system started last year in response to student feedback seeking speed and convenience in navigating the portal.

During enrollment periods, students often report site crashes and discrepancies in the Student Central system, compromising their online enrollment procedure.

As such, Student Central NEO aims to offer an efficient interface similar to an ‘online shop,’ where students can process transactions and access services without unnecessary steps.

“We observed changes in terms of how students use the system with the new generation and the goal was to make it feel like an online shop kasi ‘yun ‘yung trend ngayon. It's like an online shop which is simple, engaging, and efficient, so that you can get things done without the extra steps. We want it smoother, parang one-stop shop na nandiyan na lahat,” the ITS manager explained.

With Student Central NEO, students will now be allowed to adjust their schedule and receive real-time fee updates even if they have not paid the down payment.

This is in contrast to the standard enrollment regulation, where students can only select and adjust their class schedules once they have settled their tuition down payment. The current Student Central system also does not show real-time updates on fees upon adjustment.

Dito sa NEO na version, students can now select and adjust their schedules even without down payment... And then they would be able to see real-time updates in terms of fees based on their chosen subjects and be able to confirm their enrollment seamlessly,” Cogollodo noted.

Meanwhile, he disclosed that the ITS is still conducting tests and improving the system.

More information about the portal’s new features will also be shared on the department’s upcoming online training via Microsoft Teams, which is scheduled on November 10.

With the introduction of this improved version, Cogollodo clarified that the current Student Central will become a legacy system. It will remain accessible primarily for historical information only until the online portal fully transitions to Student Central NEO.
