Far Eastern University (FEU) Drum and Bugle Corps (DBC) flaunted the beats of classical music in Marching Band Festival (MBF) 8 as part of FEU Roosevelt's 91st Founding Anniversary at the Marikina Sports Center last Wednesday, January 31.
In an interview with FEU Advocate, FEU DBC Artistic Director Kevin Castelo shared the inspiration behind the Morayta-based marching band unit’s performance.
"’Di kasi ito [classical music theme] masyadong uso sa Pilipinas (This is not too famous in the Philippines),” he said.
The arrangement featured renditions of ‘Festive Overture’ by Dmitri Shostakovich, ‘Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral’ from Richard Wagner's Lohengrin, and ‘Dies Irae’ from Giuseppe Verdi's Requiem.
Moreover, Castelo expressed his excitement in showing the organization's unique image through the performance.
“Bihira ‘yung ganitong style—magiging bagong image, bagong version ni FEU DBC (This style is rare—it will be a new image, new version of FEU DBC),” he stated.
The artistic director also shared that this is FEU DBC’s first MBF edition conducted off-campus.
Additionally, the green-and-gold pride invited the Cainta Blue Scouts DBC and Knights of Caloocan DBC to play for the event.
In its eight year, FEU DBC annually conducts the Marching Band Festival in celebration of Tamaraw artistry through drums, brass, and guardlining.
