FEU alumnus, former SC chief justice receives highest Papal Award

Far Eastern University (FEU) alumnus and former Supreme Court (SC) Chief Justice Artemio V. Panganiban Jr. was granted the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice by Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula last September 15.

Panganiban finished his Associate in Arts degree in 1956 as a summa cum laude, Bachelor degree of Laws in 1960 as a cum laude, and Doctor of Laws last 2002 in FEU. He also became a professor of law and political science in the University from 1961 to 1970. 

The former chief justice was also a staff member of FEU Advocate from 1955 to 1956 and awarded the Most Distinguished Alumnus in the field of Law by the student publication in 1990.

Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula conferred the award to Panganiban in the Solemn Eucharistic Celebration and Conferral Award held at the Manila Cathedral last September 18.

Panganiban was cited for “leading the strengthening, retrofitting, restoration and renovation of the Manila Cathedral as well as for leading lay organizations in several roles from 1991 to 2021.”

The Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice or ‘For Church and Pope’ is the highest award presented by the Pope for people who have shown exemplary service to the Catholic Church.
