If only I could reach in
to what thumps beneath your ribs,
trace its crevices and walls,
etch my name into every beat.
I don’t fear purples and blues,
tears, gashes, or gaping wounds.
If your blood engulfs the floor,
then I’ll lap it up with my tongue—
leaving not a drop wasted,
for there’s nothing I want more
than to taste all your sorrows,
and let them scab over us both.
And if you worry the wound,
I’m ready to tend once more.
Even if your gore’s all I taste,
as long as it’s yours, then bleed.
